A short five decades ago this pair of nascent musicians were travelling the cities of North America as street musicians - entertaining an unsuspecting public with hilarious routines, singing a mix of rootsy folk, bluegrass and original comedy songs. In summer they travelled the rich Ontario folk festival circuit - which included the Killaloe Craft & Community Fair. Hank and Ken are joined this weekend by Fancy pants Lance on guitar and Sleepy Jim Gleason on the bass.
There are many shades to Purrpelle... Her DJ sets often reveal her playful nature and a knack for shaking booties with big basslines and stirring souls with moving melodies.
Purrpelle is a multi-genre DJ who is known to “exhibit crazy range and versatility”. She has played alongside top-shelf talent in forests and festivals across Canada, appearing at Harvest Festival, Lumaterra, Bloom Festival, Boreal, Solstice Gathering, In Flow and Eclipse to name a few. At home in Toronto, she has selected sounds for many celebrated promoters including alienInFlux, Nomada Project, EveryBody, Wiggly, Good Times Gang, CirQlar, Promise and SUMA. She has also been a resident DJ and curator with local collectives including Architextures, Blend, Chicks Dig It and Dub'runch!
Producer, Musician, DJ and Dancer Rise Ashen has devoted his life to the study of sound and movement. From his early years as a B-boy in Montreal in the 80s, to his studies at Fanshawe College (North America’s Oldest Recording School) and the Banff Centre for the Arts, his focus has been on applying hi-fi know-how to underground music. He has remixed or collaborated with Brazil’s Bebel Gilberto, American jazz legend Duke Ellington, San Francisco based Bombay Dub Orchestra and Fred Everything, Mali’s Issa Bagayogo, Montreal Juno award winner Miguel Graca, Toronto based Ammoye, Version XCursion, LAL, Eccodek, King Sunshine, the New Deal and Bageshree, UK’s Sean Escofferey, John Beltran, Steph Lefrancois and Josef Malik, New York’s Angel Moraes, Ottawa Algonquin singer Flying Down Thunder and Disco Daddy Trevor “Lifeboogie” Walker, Oni The Haitian Sensation among others. He has shared the stage with such varied greats as K’Naan, The Ethnic Heritage Ensemble, Kid Koala and Jully Black among others. For bandleader Sam Heineman, this performance is especially meaningful. Sam spent his early years growing up in Killaloe and attended the very first fair in 1976. His parents, Jim and Erin, were members of the Killaloe Mountain Band, one of the first groups to perform at the fair. Their involvement began a long family tradition of bringing musicians to the area to perform and experience the beauty and community spirit of Killaloe. Since 1984, Sam has performed at many fairs with family and friends and is excited to return as part of the fair's 50th anniversary celebration.

Amanita is a nine-piece band from Toronto, bringing together experienced musicians with backgrounds in a wide range of genres and styles. Led by Sam Heineman, the band delivers an energetic mix of classic R&B, Afrobeats, and funk covers that keeps audiences dancing.
For bandleader Sam Heineman, this performance is especially meaningful. Sam spent his early years growing up in Killaloe and attended the very first fair in 1976. His parents, Jim and Erin, were members of the Killaloe Mountain Band, one of the first groups to perform at the fair. Their involvement began a long family tradition of bringing musicians to the area to perform and experience the beauty and community spirit of Killaloe.
Since 1984, Sam has performed at many fairs with family and friends and is excited to return as part of the fair's 50th anniversary celebration.
